The Kenett and Avon Canal linked the busy port of Bristol with London and contributed to the prosperity of Wiltshire during the early nineteenth century until the coming of the railways. Now, restored barges ply the canal as pleasure boat trips and give passengers the opportunity to admire the astonishing construction of the artificial waterway. Cyclists and walkers can also enjoy the towpaths and the wildlife that inhabits the habitat including herons and kingfishers.

Longleat Safari Park is a great day out for all the family. The first and some say still the best transformation of a Stately Home into an Adventure Park it has been described as "Britain's best value day out" and certainly offers many different things to do and see including the safari, the house and garden, train and boat rides and a maze.

Salisbury Cathedral is also essential viewing. This exceptionally fine Gothic Cathedral has the tallest spire in the country, which was added later and is a stroke of engineering genius that almost rivals the construction of Stonehenge!

No trip to Wiltshire would be complete without a visit to Stonehenge. Situated on the Salisbury Plain, this ancient megalithic World Heritage Site is a place of pilgrimage for visitors from all corners of the world. The debate continues over the whys and wherefores of this puzzling monument, and one can only marvel at its existence.

A truly spectacular garden was created at Stourhead in the 18th Century, it is like a 17th Century landscape painting brought to life with temples, grottos, lakes and bridges creating a scene resembling Classical Rome in a sylvan setting. It is a magical day out for all the family.
